Creating room for better lives
Lifeshelter, a small Danish company with big ambitions to create environmentally friendly and low-cost homes and rooms for people all over the world, joined Future Now, a three-month strategy and business development program aimed at Danish production companies, in 2021
The Results: A business model that adapts to the future
Throughout the program the team developed a range of hands-on tools and skills to help them navigate the future:
- A new business model
- Redefinition of vision and strategy
- A prototype that targets a new target group in the private sector
“We have visualized a new business model that is modular and adaptable. In the future, we can 'lock' various elements in the business model and use it to facilitate the dialogue and interest between players and investors."
Jens Odgaard Olsson
The next step is to create an alliance between Lifeshelter, NGO’s and the private sector to test if they can apply the same model on all target groups to provide shelter to even more people across the world.
The Challenge: Getting more stakeholders engaged in the world’s housing crisis
Building a good home doesn’t have to be complex, but few companies are able to do it sufficiently cheap to provide housing to the vast group of people who have an income, but no access to a bank loan that would allow them to become homeowners. So how do we get more stakeholders engaged in the cause to improve the quality of life for people on the fringes of society?
The Approach: A quick trip to the year 2050
Together with six other Danish production companies, Lifeshelter was among the first participants in the Future Now program that included three workshops as well as sessions with an appointed mentor.
During the workshops, we used a number of tools in our work with the team:
- Our four future scenarios for 2050
- Action plan
Lifeshelter worked with four future scenarios for 2050 that we’ve developed with a focus on industrial production companies. You can also work with the scenarios on your own – read more about them and try them out right here.
All Lifeshelter had to invest to participate was the time the team and management spent on the workshops and mentoring sessions. The Future Now project is a collaboration with DI – Dansk Industri and Industriens Fond that runs from fall 2020-fall 2021.
“For Lifeshelter, working with the future scenarios of 2050 has been a catalyst for major changes in the company. We were ready for change, and the process has led us to redefine our vision and strategy. It’s been really good.”
Jens Odgaard Olsson
